Dietetic Consultation

A dietetic consultation consists of an assessment of a person’s nutritional status in order to identify any possible condition of malnutrition.

The consultation begins with the physician collecting a detailed physiological, medical and family history.

The nutritional assessment then focuses on the patient’s weight history. It is important to gather information about changes in body weight, whether increases or decreases, and whether these occurred spontaneously, were associated with medical conditions or resulted from specific diets.

In patients who are overweight or obese, it is also useful to establish whether they have previously followed dietary programmes, what type of programmes they were, whether medication was used and what results were achieved.

Dietary History

The next step in the dietetic consultation involves collecting a detailed dietary history. This helps identify the patient’s eating habits and provides an essential basis for developing appropriate dietary recommendations.

Personalised Diet

A healthy way to get back into shape is through a balanced diet tailored to the individual’s eating habits. There is no single diet suitable for everyone, as individual needs vary considerably according to age, sex, occupation and constitutional characteristics, all of which can significantly influence metabolism.

The ideal diet should not only meet energy requirements and provide the nutrients essential for health, but should also be enjoyable and compatible with the individual’s cultural food traditions and daily working habits.

Dietetic Follow-up

A dietetic follow-up is carried out after a period of time determined by the specialist. It is generally a shorter consultation focused mainly on the condition previously identified, in order to assess whether it has improved completely or partially and whether there has been an overall improvement in the patient’s clinical condition.

For subsequent follow-up appointments, patients may also be asked to complete a food diary. This is a useful tool for estimating daily food intake and providing further guidance on nutritional education.

Food Intolerance Tests

The test is performed on serum IgG using a certified ELISA method, followed by a discussion of the screening results with the patient.

This test is intended to identify foods potentially associated with symptoms and to assess changes following an initial dietary period.

It provides a detailed analysis through a panel assessing 57 foods commonly investigated in relation to food intolerance symptoms.

Genetic tests:

DNA test for nutrients:
A genetic test that analyses genes associated with how efficiently different nutrients are absorbed and metabolised by the body. This efficiency varies from person to person.

DNA test for predisposition to obesity:
This test analyses genetic variants, or polymorphisms, involved in the regulation of metabolism and appetite mechanisms.

DNA test for metabolic efficiency:
A genetic test based on the analysis of genes involved in the regulation of energy metabolism. The combination of different genetic variants may influence energy expenditure in response to physical activity.
