Orthopaedic consultation
The consultation includes the patient’s medical history and a clinical examination. The medical history involves collecting all relevant information about the patient’s personal and family history that may help assess their condition and identify, together with the patient, the reasons for requesting a specialist consultation.
The medical history is followed by a clinical examination, which includes inspection of the patient, palpation of the bones and soft tissues, assessment of active and passive movement, neurological examination of muscle function and sensitivity, and specific orthopaedic and trauma-related tests.
The consultation is aimed at establishing a diagnosis in order to determine the appropriate preventive, medical, surgical, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, or orthotic treatment for orthopaedic and trauma-related conditions of the musculoskeletal system. To reach a complete diagnosis, laboratory tests or diagnostic examinations such as X-rays, ultrasound, CT scans or MRI may be required.
This allows the doctor to establish an accurate diagnosis and prescribe the appropriate treatment.

Orthopaedic follow-up
An orthopaedic follow-up is carried out after a period of time determined by the specialist. It is a shorter consultation focused primarily on the condition previously assessed, in order to determine whether it has completely or partially resolved or whether the patient’s clinical condition has improved.

Arthrocentesis
This procedure is performed under sterile conditions, after careful disinfection of the skin. Using a syringe fitted with an appropriate needle, fluid caused by inflammation or trauma is aspirated from within a joint, such as the shoulder or knee.

Orthopaedic injections
This procedure is performed under sterile conditions. The specialist injects medication into a joint (e.g. the knee) or near tendons or bones (e.g. the epicondyle) for pain-relieving, anti-inflammatory or chondroprotective purposes, including substances with viscoelastic properties.

Orthopaedic medico-legal report
Medico-legal assessments, aimed at preparing an expert report, are widely used in the field of orthopaedics. Many patients require an expert medical report following physical injuries sustained in a road traffic accident or workplace accident.
