Among the areas studied and explored by psychology are memory, intelligence, learning, communication, emotions, affectivity, motivation, frustration, aggression and conflict, as well as personality, relationships, organisational structures and groups.
Psychology is a field of study whose findings are based on scientific research.
The skills and tools offered by psychology are applied in all areas of everyday life concerned with the psychological well-being of individuals, groups and communities.

Psychological consultation
During the first consultation, the patient is asked to sign the informed consent form. Signing these forms provides the patient with written assurance, with legal validity, that everything discussed during the sessions will be subject to the strictest professional confidentiality.
It is an introductory meeting in which the psychologist establishes a relationship with the patient, gets to know them, understands their emotions, fears and expectations, gains their trust and, at the same time, develops the assessment that will guide the subsequent therapeutic process.
After the initial introductory meeting, the psychologist proposes a brief assessment process aimed at understanding the problem presented by the patient, identifying possible causal links and determining the most appropriate course of support based on the issues that emerge.
At the end of the assessment process, the psychologist provides feedback on the information gathered, helping the person to become more aware of what is happening within them, identify possible links between the difficulties experienced and present or past events, and better understand the underlying problem, which is not always clear to those seeking help.
Once the assessment phase has been completed, the psychologist discusses the findings with the patient and, together with them, establishes a series of goals to be achieved, explaining the methods that will be used. The psychotherapy process can then begin.

Individual psychotherapy
The primary aim of psychotherapy, regardless of the type of symptom or the different manifestations that have led to the crisis, is to foster greater self-awareness and personal growth in emotional, communicative and relational areas, helping to restore a sense of confidence, calm and responsibility. A symptom is the tip of the iceberg: it can reveal something about ourselves, the way we experience relationships and the situation we are facing. A crisis can become a valuable opportunity to initiate change and reactivate the natural drive towards personal development. It is important not to miss the “right moment”, so that a setback, an obstacle or a crisis can become an opportunity for genuine change and a fuller life.

Family psychotherapy
When distress is experienced by a child or adolescent, it may be appropriate to work with the whole family in order to address the underlying difficulties.
Clinical intervention seeks to identify and activate the resources needed to resolve problems that have become established over time. Family psychotherapy aims to develop new ways of relating among family members and with the outside world, in an effort to reactivate a natural developmental process that has been interrupted.

Couples psychotherapy
Couples psychotherapy addresses emerging conflict by encouraging each partner to recognise the other’s inner world and promoting constructive dialogue about their individual differences, in order to understand each other’s perspective and share emotional experiences. Clinical intervention encourages a greater sense of belonging and participation in the relationship by activating new resources, moving from confrontation based on conflict towards constructive dialogue and developing new ways of interacting.

Neuropsychological and cognitive tests
Neuropsychology uses a specific assessment method: the neuropsychological examination. It is a complex and structured process aimed at identifying and measuring an individual’s cognitive functioning following brain injury through the progressive collection, interpretation and synthesis of information about their cognitive status.
The neuropsychological examination provides important information about behaviour, cognitive abilities, personality, acquired skills and the rehabilitation potential of people who have experienced brain injury.
Neuropsychological tests are necessary for appropriate diagnostic assessment in neurodegenerative conditions and dementia, as well as in cerebrovascular and post-traumatic disorders.
In these conditions, cognitive functions are often affected and therefore need to be carefully assessed and monitored over time.
